My Motivation for taking part in the Solaris Cancer Care Red Sky Ride
I did Ride for Youth in 2010 and loved the training & the event. I have been very fortunate and like to contribute to others who may require assistance.
In 2010 I had a melanoma removed and it gave me an appreciation for what a person and their family face when confronted with a diagnosis of cancer.
I love riding my bike. I’m not great at it but I love the camaraderie of cycling in the peloton, of pushing myself and that overwhelming joy of keeping fit. Cycling is definitely my sport!
To be able to combine sport with fundraising is one way to keep a focus on training for a purpose.
I knew nothing about Solaris Cancer Care till I joined the ride last year and began to fundraise. When fundraising I met many people who have been affected by cancer - either themselves or a friend or family member and Solaris was known and respected. On the ride last year we visited some Solaris centres in the South West and met people using the service and when I heard some of the stories of their cancer journey I felt happy to be able to contribute a little to this worthwhile not-for-profit.
